Hello, friends! It’s Monday so you might be wondering why you’re getting a tarot reading instead of the normal craft post. Well, I decided to switch things up a bit. Starting our week off with a tarot theme feels appropriate to me.
This means I’ll be moving the weekly craft post (only for paid subscribers) to Wednesday. And on Friday’s we’ll be doing our fun weekly post, where we talk about things we’re digging.
To Summarize the New Schedule:
Monday: Writer’s Tarot
Wednesday: Writing Craft Talk*/ Write-In at 8:00 pm CDT*
Friday: Friday Fun Stuff/ Write-In at 10:30am CDT*
*Writing Craft posts and Write-Ins are for paid subscribers only. Want to join us?
Now onto the show!
The card I drew for us today is the Seven of Cups. It’s from my Art of Life deck.
The painting depicted is Eugene Manet on the Isle of Wight (detail) by Berte Morisot, 1875
The quote under the painting says:
“ Who so loves, believes the impossible.” -Elizabeth Barrett Browning
Key words: Illusions, fantasy, potential, choices.
In the image we see a man (Manet) looking out a window at a beautiful waterfront scene with a woman and a young girl dressed in white out for a stroll. Outside the window, there’s a garden with blooming, bright flowers.
Inside, it’s a little dreary. He has three pots on his windowsill but the plants are lifeless compared to the bright scene just beyond.
He seems to be gazing out with longing, wishing to join in on life, but for some reason he has kept himself apart.
As writers, we excel at imagination. We can picture lots of possibilities in vivid detail. We can build worlds from nothing.
However, sometimes we’re so good at and enjoy imagining possibilities that we forget that possible doesn’t become probable without action.
At some point, you have to stop gazing out of the window of your mind and choose to join the world. Will the reality match the perfection your conjured in your mind? Probably not, but at least it’ll be real and not an illusion.
In short, it’s fine and good to imagine different paths and where they might lead. But it is only once you stand, make a choice, and take your first step on a real path that things will actually manifest in your life.
If you can’t choose a path, then maybe you’re distracting yourself with illusions. What choice are you avoiding?
In addition to starting a new week, we’re also celebrating a full moon today.
Full moon is a time for letting go of the old so we can welcome the new. So as you’re pondering paths and choices, also be thinking about what you can let go of to make space for good, new things in your life.
I hope you all have a wonderful week! Let me know what you think of the new schedule in the comments section.
Writer's Tarot for 8/3/20
Love the theme for the week. Good idea!
I like the new schedule. Having a tarot card on Monday helps focus the rest of the week's work or play. Good idea.
