It’s that time of the week again, where we talk about the things that we’re excited about.
This week’s entries are very book and television heavy because I spent four days of the prior seven sick. Hopefully this coming week, I’ll leave the house more to find amazing delights to share with you.
As usual, I don’t get paid to endorse anything, but I do use affiliate links for Amazon.
Without further ado, here we go with this week’s picks!
Woo Series
My biggest Woo this week has been bingeing the second season of Sex Education on Netflix. It’s a delightful show about a teenager whose mother is a sex therapist who starts a sex advice business at his school. It’s also about how knowing a lot about sex and relationships in theory doesn’t mean love or sex in practice are easy.
The writing on this show is so good, y’all. I laugh a lot and cry a bit, too. There’s so much heart in the writing and empathy for every character. They also put a lot of emphasis on honesty, communication and overcoming shame as themes.
Also it has Gillian Anderson in it, and she makes everything in life better.
Woo Books
I have an admission to make: I’ve never actually read Bram Stoker’s Dracula. Yes, I understand this is shocking. After all, I got successful writing about vampires and I know an awful lot about them, and Dracula is THE book.
I think it’s just one of those books that is so ingrained in the culture that I felt I’d read it. I’d seen the Coppola movie—
Side Note: I went on a first date in high school to see the Coppola film (awkward), and when the Weird Sisters bit Harker in the crotch a man in the audience jumped up and screamed.
—and I’d seen many other adaptations so I thought I knew the story pretty well. But it wasn’t until this week that I actually sat down to read it. You guys, it’s so good. Of course it is.
I should also admit that I hadn’t read To Kill a Mockingbird until last week, and that’s good too. Who’d have thought classics were actually enjoyable? Anyway, I’m having fun filling in some literature gaps right now so I don’t have to pretend I’ve read these books anymore. Life is too short for book shame.
Woo Woo
This is another book recommendation, but it falls under Woo Woo so it’s going here. I love following Colin Bedell on Instagram. He’s wise and funny, and a real seeker of growth. I read his book Queer Cosmos over the weekend and really enjoyed it.
While the book is aimed at an LGBTQIA audience, I think anyone interested in astrology would enjoy this book. He explains a lot of theory and how things work in plain English, and it helped me understand my chart a little better. Plus, his point of view is very much for anyone who pushes back against convention and dominant culture in general. If that’s you, check it out!

So tell me in comments, what’s Woo with you this week?
Do you have any secret shame books? Ones that you tell people you've read but haven't? It's okay--this is a safe space. :)
You are part of my woo this week! I rewarded myself with 3 audible credits recently and used them to buy the rest of the Prospero series. I really enjoyed them and will add to my read again list for next year. Your occult symbolism was great, your magic consistent across the series while able to add new and intriguing things, and the mysteries were engaging. Woo!
I was also sick and totally binged The Morning Show on AppleTV+. Sooooo good. And upsetting. And thoughty as my mom would say.
I am today rereading Neal Shusterman’s Scythe in preparation for reading the sequel, as I like to refresh if it has been a while, and I had forgotten how much I liked this book. Such a neat premise, while tackling some heavy philosophical topics. Woo!
I am totally sending that astrology book to my best friend (And me). Thanks for the recommendation.
I missed a lot of classics while coming of age so I try to catch one periodically. Dracula is a definite favorite, especially with full cast on Audible.
