Hello, friends. Time has become a flat circle, but my calendar says it’s Wednesday so today we Woo.
Woo Gadget
We live in this weird world where we need gadgets to help us use other gadgets. This item is the perfect example: The iFlex.
I needed a way to prop up my phone and iPad on my desk for doing Zoom and Facetime since they’re both a big part of life now. It’s sort of infuriating how simple it is—basically a piece of aluminum wrapped in rubber. But I like it because it’s really flexible. You can make a stand or a hook out of it. Once i’m able to leave my house, I can see lots of travel-related uses for it.
They have this size and a mini version just for phones, and there are a lot of color options. I found mine on Amazon.
Woo Research
There’s a story I’ve been wanting to write for a while. It’s set in the world of High Lonesome Sound but 100 years in the past. I’ve dabbled with writing it for a while, but I’ve decided to get serious. That means I get to research, which is my favorite. So this week I’ve been steeped in mountain folklore, mining history, and Appalachian funereal rites. Even though I researched a lot of this for HLS, I need a refresher and also some new knowledge since this story will happen in a different century.
I’m also doing a lot of reading. This week I’ve read several short stories: “The Sin Eater” by Margaret Atwood, “The Bloody Chamber” by Angela Carter, and “The Hearing Trumpet” by Leonora Carrington.
Woo Teaching
Tomorrow I’m teaching a Zoom seminar I call “Fighting Demons: Internal vs External Conflict.” It starts at 4pm CST and will last 1.5 hours. This is one of my most popular classes. Plus, you can get a 20% discount when you register if you use the code ONLINE.
What’s Woo with you this week? Let’s chat about it in comments.
I love doing research. I really need to look into your workshops
