This week’s reading was drawn from the Modern Witch’s Tarot by Lisa Sterle.
Our card for this week is Strength.
Key Words: Courage, Inner Mastery, Taming Passion, Persistence
Song to help you capture this energy: “Roar” by Katy Perry
Normally, we’d associate a wild animal as a symbol of being untamed and uninhibited, but in this card we see a proud lion who is relaxed and calmly facing to the future. At his side is a woman with her eye on the future and her gentling hand on his head.
Since this is a reading for writers, this card might indicate that you’re needing some courage this week in relation to your creative projects. You’ll need to pull on inner fortitude to ensure you’re taking the most aligned approach to your work. Brave through your internal barriers and proceed with your most inspired (and scary) ideas.
Remember to infuse your courage with lots of self-compassion. Writers often abuse ourselves through negative, shaming self-talk. We use toxic aggression and pressure to perform to cajole success from ourselves. This week, don’t talk to yourself like a drill sergeant. Instead, talk to yourself like you’d talk to your best friend if they came to you for advice about doing a scary project.
You’d probably listen to your friend without critical commentary. You’d tell her she’s smart and brave. You’d tell her that you’re proud of her for trying something new. You’d tell her that you believe in her. If you’re a good friend, you might also be super honest and tell you whether the thing she’s doing is taking her out of alignment with her essence, too. Because being a good friend to others (and oneself) requires unflinching honesty, too.
The Strength card isn’t about flexing muscles or drawing blood. It’s not about posturing or roaring. This Strength is about being your own best friend. It’s the strength of dressing yourself in a rose garland and staring into the mirror of the future, and saying with conviction, “I love you. You’re worthy. Go do the thing that makes you feel alive.”
Have a good week, friends. Happy writing!
Yes, gentle giant strength. I've fallen off submitting my work to agents. I can't see the point. So many rejections. I've had a good critique from one agent but that seems so long ago. I need some gentle strength. I'm going to meditate on this see if I can find a Totoro deep down inside of me.
