Our card this week is the Page of Swords pulled from the Everyday Witch Tarot.
Keywords for this card: Beginner’s mind, Communication, News, Idealism, Fresh Ideas
Quick astrology note: Tomorrow (Oct. 13) Mercury will be in retrograde until November 3. Yeah, the planet of communication is going to be wonky right up until Election Day in the US. This means communication is going to be a HUGE theme this week (and beyond).
Back up your work, don’t make any major purchases, and don’t sign any contracts. Double check all email to make sure you’re saying what you mean to say, and make sure you’re not replying all. As for starting new projects, well, it’s not the best time for that. Anything begun under a Merc Retro tends to need lots of revision later on. It’s usually best to go back to an old project that needs fresh eyes right now.
This may all feel contradictory in a week when we’ve pulled the Page of Swords. This card is the energy of new ideas, fresh eyes, and communication, and I just told you to be careful with those things.
Notice the books at the page’s feet in the card. That is because the page is an apprentice, who is striking out after a period of training or knowledge-gathering (swords is the suit of the intellect). If you are starting on a new path or quest, be sure you’ve done your homework.
Here’s a personal example. I’ve been researching and preparing for a new novel in a new genre. It’s time now for me to start writing this book in earnest. Normally, with Mercury vexing me, I’d be worried about starting a new thing. But the truth is I started this new thing when I started researching it. I’ve done my homework, so I feel confident that I know what I’m getting into. I still have things to learn and will likely run into obstacles I didn’t foresee, but I’m not The Fool jumping off a cliff into the unknown with no real reason to have faith in my abilities.
The Page knows enough to get started, but it is in the doing of the thing that brings mastery and confidence.
So the bottom line is that you’re going to need those excellent communication skills this week. Focus on being precise with your words. If you’re starting a new thing, make sure you’ve done enough intellectual groundwork to feel like you have a good idea of what you’re getting yourself into. Alternately, is there a way to approach a current pursuit with a beginner’s mind? Sometimes a fresh perspective can make an old idea feel fresh and invigorating.
Happy writing, friends!
Ugh Mercury retrograde 👿 This usually doesn't affect me much, but it does my hubby. Of course it's 2020 and anything goes. Honestly is Stephen King going to write a horror book about 2020. I mean the calendar could double for an outline.
Back to the Page of Swords. So much hope, so much energy. I want to be this card!.
