Today’s post for paid subscribers is a continuation of the Promises and Payoffs in Fiction series, where I post sections from a craft book I’m currently writing. The topic is about genre promises and how to learn the specific promises made by writers of your genre to readers.
If you’re interested in leveling up your fiction writing for any of the popular genres, you’ll want to follow along. When the book comes out (pub date tbd), I’ll send a signed copy to all paid subscribers.
Supporting The Messy Muse allows me to continue to share my knowledge about writing good novels with you. Thanks for your support!

But what if you’re writing something that you haven’t read a lot of?
