Happy Monday, friends! It’s Mabon, the Autumnal equinox in the Northern Hemisphere. Mabon is the second of three harvest festivals (falls between Lundasgah and Samhain), and is a time of thanksgiving for the harvest and the importance of sharing the fruits of the earth to secure the blessings of the gods and goddesses for the coming winter months.
It’s interesting that the card for today is the Queen of Wands. Mabon has emphasis on the shifting balance between light and dark. The Queen of Wands is a card of fire. As the days grow shorter and the nights longer, fire becomes more important to sustains us.
See how the figure in the card is on a fiery-colored throne emblazoned with lions and sunflowers? This card has Leo energy—fire and pride. She also holds a wand that burns with green fire and has a black cat at her feet (her familiar?)—so she’s also a queen of magic.
The Queen of Wands is feisty, she’s self-assured, she gets shit done. But she’s not a bully. The Queen of Wands can be deeply spiritual, energizing, and comfortable with her sexual energy.
This week, as we enter into the season of second harvest and begin the slide into winter, think of ways you can stoke the fires of your creative vision. This card indicates that your efforts will yield fruit and that harvest will help you live out your passions.
If you’ve been wondering if you should do the work that’s calling to you, the Queen of Wands says, “Hell yes!”
Have a great week!
Oh what a perfect card for me today. My Morning Pages today were all about keeping my focus on telling stories, on the here in now in my present moment, on resisting the temptation to fall into despair because, in truth, there's an aspect to it that is easy. So yes, Blessed Mabon to all and thank you for the "HELL YES!"
