It’s time for another tarot prompt! This week, I pulled the Page of Pentacles from my Modern Witch tarot deck.

Theme Words: Seeking knowledge, experience, new skills, study, curiosity, service to others.
For Your Stories
I like to think of the Page of Pentacles as the movie training montage card. This is Luke going to the swamp to learn Jedi skills from Yoda. It’s Rocky punching meat and running up steps. It’s Baby learning dance moves from Johnny to prepare for the big dance performance. Basically, we’re talking the period of time in a story where a protagonist begins to learn the news skills they need to succeed in their goal—or at least get closer to it.
Mind you, this is not the card of guaranteed success of that goal. It’s a starting card. In order to succeed, the hero/ine must have a plan, find a mentor, etc.
Story Ideas:
-Make a list of skills your protagonist needs to succeed in their goal. Write a scene where they begin the process of gaining these skills.
-Every good training montage needs a kick-ass soundtrack. What’s your hero/ine’s training theme song? While you’re at it, make an entire playlist for your book. Later, once the story is published, you can share it with your readers.
-Look for the “this won’t be easy” moment in your character’s pursuit of new skills—this is a sort of mini-dark moment where their mettle is tested and they have to re-up their commitment to learning these skills. Write that moment.
For Your Creative Journey
As you continue on your path, you’ll need to pick up new skills as well. What classes can you take to help you understand an element of craft you’ve always struggled with? What mentors can you look to for guidance?
Or perhaps you’re starting a new writing project and you need to do research so you have the knowledge necessary to write it.
Like our hero/ine from above, you need a good song. Pick something that you can listen to every time you sit down to work to pump yourself up.
Some examples:
“Survivor” Destiny’s Child
“Lose Yourself” Eminem
“Love is All Around” Joan Jett and the Blackhearts
“Juice” Lizzo
“Lovely Day” Bill Withers (RIP)
“The Distance” Cake
“Hold On” Alabama Shakes
“I Won’t Back Down” Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers
Questions to ask yourself right now:
-What new possibilities are you pursuing right now?
-What new information do you need to gather now?
-How can you be of service to your dreams right now?
Do you have a theme song that motivates you?
